Frankenmuth Auto Oldies Fest

No, no photos yet...I shot in raw format and don't have a pc yet to post process the photos. Leon shot in jpg and raw so he'll post some later. We shot in manual today because suddenly, we realize that the colors are just that much better. Personally, spending time away from a skill than coming back to it actually helps me be better. I forget my bad habits and start afresh with the "right steps" in my head.

Back to the auto show (http://frankenmuthautofest.org). It's an annual gathering of antique and historic cars in the city of Frankenmuth. This Little Bavaria of Michigan lies south east of Midland and is named for Franconia by German settlers who came here in the 1840's. It's known for its Bavarian fare and has Franconian style architecture. Its population is about 4,700 andits economy is largely driven by tourism. It's also home to a shop that calls itself the world's largest Christmas store - I've been there once and it is mind boggling; we'll make a trip closer to Christmas and maybe I can convince Leon to set up a small Christmas tree.

One of our fellow visitors (we've not met even one unfriendly American yet in Michigan!!!) told us there were about 3,000 cars on display. From Thunderbirds to Corvettes to Mustang and muscle cars of yesteryears to station wagons, trucks and "cobble different parts together" cars. My favorites of the show - Cadillac roaster, Fairlane, Thunderbird, and Cobra. Maintenance must be labor of love... I'll stick to wanting a Beetle convertible...

Since Frankenmuth is so near Birch Run, we made another trip to the outlets. We needed to build up our collection of warm home wear as the weather has started turning cold. Leaves have become yellower and some have turned a deep red. The mornings and evenings are chilly and noon is no longer that hot. Since it was cold, we decided to have something spicy for dinner. In the present Susan and Trevor gave us was a packet of sambal mix that the customs officer let us bring into the US. So here's our sambal chicken dinner...thanks Susan and Trevor!
