Friday Night Out: Grampa Tony's

We decided that every Friday will be 'party night', i.e. we'll eat out or hang out with friends (the few that we have...hopefully there'll be more!).

So last Friday, we decided to check out Grampa's Tony (1108 Columbus Avenue, Bay City, MI 48708. Phone: (989) 893-4795).  Leon picked the restaurant because it apparently serves good pizza and banana split.

As it turned out, neither of us had the pizza.  He couldn't resist the NY Strip Steak (US$12) and I felt like having a greasy mushroom beef burger with fried onions (US$4.75).  The doneness of the steak was not quite right - not pink enough for a medium.  The burger, at that price, really couldn't be faulty.

But we did attempt the banana split, which was three huge scoops of gelato that tasted homemade was very good.  The strawberry flavor had frozen fruit in it and wasn't cloyingly sweet.  The chocolate ice cream was thick enough and the pineapple jam that arrived atop the vanilla ice cream was a nice touch.

And we did good by cleaning up the plate!

Probably the silliest thing we did that night was to finish dessert, pay, put on our coats, and walked out into the cold while our cores were still chilled by the banana spilt.  Shivering uncontrollably and giggling like two kids who just pulled a priceless prank, we had to make a run for the car. Next time, we'll probably stick around for a hot coffee to round off a meal before braving the cold night...
