Ways to Add Steps to a Day

For my birthday, my sisters bought me a Nike FuelBand!  Well, I wanted a pedometer but the ladies said after sharing between the two of them, it was "too cheap".  Doncha just love it when younger sisters grow up and have income?  :o) But it was a good thing we got the FuelBand - I've been needing a watch to wear.
I wanted black but it wasn't available.
Ice White is a translucent white that shows off the band's innards.
I wanted a pedometer because a few weeks ago, I read about a man who lost half his weight, or about 200 pounds, from walking around his neighborhood every day.  He said he couldn't afford gym memberships so figured he'd just start walking.  I can't seem to locate the specific article anymore but a quick Google search shows many who'd accomplished the same.

If I could cycle instead of walk, that would be my preferred exercise.  Unfortunately, the FuelBand isn't made for tracking cycling.  But I wanted a step counter in the first place and that feature works well.  It counted about 5,000 steps today.  I'm aiming to bring that up to 10,000 a day, the recommended goal in order to lose weight.

So here's my list of ways to add steps to each day:

  1. Park at the far end of the parking lot.  Check the weather forecast first lah.
  2. Pace around the room instead of standing still.
  3. Stand up and walk around during TV commercials.
  4. Walk during lunch time.  It doesn't take long to finish lunch and instead of sitting around chatting with Leon, we could walk up and down the corridor and still yak.
  5. Take the stairs...I usually do except when heading to the 8th floor.  I should take the stairs for that too.
  6. Enter the supermarket at the opposite end of where I want to go.
  7. Walk down every single aisle in the supermarket.
  8. Return the cart to the store instead of the cart stands in the parking lot.

I found some websites that converts cycling time to steps.  So at the speed that I normally cycle, every minute would equal 130 steps or so.  Since I cycle 30 minutes some mornings, that gives me 3,900 steps off the bat!  Not bad!  Now that's good motivation to keep at cycling every morning!
